where you invest your love, you invest your life.

“In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love, you invest your life.”
Awake My Soul by Mumford & Sons

I love this band.  If you haven’t heard them, definitely check them out.

I was listening to their album on the way home from work last night and this lyric caught my attention.  “Where you invest your love, you invest your life.”  If you read my blog regularly, you likely know that I’ve had a post or two on love lately.  I guess I’ve been faced with the reality that love is a challenge and a choice more obviously now in my life than ever before.  Thankfully, God’s whittled away a lot of the things I could choose to love that would ultimately bring emptiness and disappointment.  But the challenge of carrying out His command to love in the midst of frustration, anger, and even resentment is an obstacle I’m having a difficult time overcoming.  And yet, I’ve chosen to invest my love in what I deeply believe God has called me to be devoted to in this particular season of my life.  So I persevere.  Calling on Him to adjust my heart to love the way He does.  If God can be love to a creation that condemned to death His only Son, I hold to the hope that I can show a sliver of that love in my daily life.  Yes, it takes patience.  Yes, I falter ~ A LOT.  Yes, I get tired.  Yes, the light at the end of the tunnel seems nothing more than a pinprick.  But, if “trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword” (Romans 8:35 NIV) cannot separate me from God’s love, the obstacle of showing love on this earth is absolutely surmountable.  And I’m certainly up for the fight.

After all, this is my life we’re talking about.
