sweet melodies.

I LOVE music.  There is just something about a song that is so flawlessly written and composed.  And I love when a piece of music is so engaging that it practically feels like it is coursing through your veins as you experience it.  In my next life, I want to be a musician.  The thought of escaping through song is so absolutely enticing to me.  But beyond that, the ability to compose hauntingly beautiful lyrics is a gift that is absolutely awe inspiring to me.  So, in tribute to those songwriters out there who so graciously share with us their poetic gifts, here are tidbits of some of my most favorite song lyrics.

At night, the sun in retreat
Made the skyline look like crooked teeth
In the mouth of a man
Who was devouring us both
Crooked Teeth” Death Cab for Cutie

When there’s nobody left in your heart, left in your head
When the whole world has packed up in shadows and left you for dead
When you can’t fake a smile and you just can’t get out of your bed
When the people you led turn to you looking so hungry and bare
And you were the one that had brought them there
And all you can do is just stare at your hands and whisper my name
Life in Disguise” The Slip

And when they finally fall
These wailing walls and burning crosses
God’s twilight and all
How I’ll feel like a beautiful child
Such a beautiful child again
Beautiful Child” Rufus Wainright

I’ll take something to believe
something with long sleeves
cause it’s unpredictable
now jesus said he’d fill my needs
but my heart still bleeds
he’s just not physical

now why can’t i see

if i look up and the sky’s not there
is there any reason that i should be scared
when a promise is a promise i know
now we’ve established lack of sight
maybe vision’s the right word
for what i need
cause i can’t see with human eyes
lord knows i’ve tried
to follow where he leads

now why can’t I see

from what i’ve seen so far
i can’t believe my eyes
and what a nice surprise
Promise” Pedro the Lion
